April 30 OPENING NIGHT "Silent Sky" by Lauren Gunderson
Silent Sky is the true story of Astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, the first person in history to measure the Universe. During a time when women were rarely given the opportunity to do their own research and make their own discoveries, Henrietta and the women at the Harvard Observatory made some of the most significant contributions to Astronomy, and had major impacts on how we see the world and our place in it. Silent Sky celebrates their strength, curiosity and drive while delving into the questions “Who are we? Where are we? Why are we?”

April 30 OPENING: Spring Dance Concert: 7pm (available until May 15)
SPRING DANCE CONCERT

The Tufts Dance Program invites you to join us April 30 at 7pm EST for the live-streamed premiere of our Spring Dance Concert, a collection of works from our graduating dance minors and Afro-Haitian class. After the initial premiere, the project will be available virtually until May 15.

About the Work
Tufts dance minors and dancers from the Afro-Haitian: From Roots to Stage course share new dance works. Graduating dance minors, Catherine Ahola, Taite Pierson, and Paige Walker will present senior choreographic capstone projects, and faculty artist Jenny Oliver has created an Afro-Haitian work for 17 dancers.
HERE: Solo Dance for Camera Virtual Showcase (April 26)
SOLO DANCE FOR CAMERA VIRTUAL SHOWCASE

Starting April 26, 7pm (eastern) for two-weeks, we invite you for a screening of original dance films made by Tufts University students and faculty, in a project entitled HERE. The live stream performance is completely free, but we ask that you please reserve a spot to access the livestream.

About the Work:
Throughout the semester, faculty artists Daniel McCusker and Jaclyn Waguespack have developed unique experiments for students in the Solo Dance for Camera course to explore sourcing and sequencing movement from everyday gestures, objects, spaces.

How do you make new work, and share it, within the limitations imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic? How do you integrate movement, camera and real-world sites, to make innovative work? How do you dance with the camera and make it a partner? What unique opportunities do the camera and editing provide? What conventions of concert dance are useful to retain in this new context? What gets jettisoned? HERE showcases the results of engaging in this creative process. Works by: Emily Aronson, Mae Briody, Melissa Cepeda, Anna Cherian, Abrina La Rose, Mariangela Morales, Joslin Regalado, Oscar Rosales, Leonardo Ruiz Sanchez, and Sophie von Muench.
